Scott J. Toney's newest book, The Last Supper: John, has just released and is 99 cents for Kindle on Amazon.com! If you've read and enjoyed Lazarus, Man then this is a book for you! An excerpt is below and a link so that you can take a look.

This is the story of The Last Supper told through the mind of  the disciple John.

Excerpt:

John sat on the floor at a low  stone table while the other apostles spoke. Candles danced light around them.
“Did you hear what Jesus spoke in the streets?” Bartholomew asked in low  tones to Thomas across the table. “He said ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man  to be glorified. Very truly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the  earth and dies, it remains just a single grain, but if it dies, it bears much  fruit.’ What do these words mean? He speaks in riddles. If he is to be glorified  will he now take his place as ruler over the land of Jerusalem? What role would  we play then?”
Thomas took a hand and placed it on the table, turning to his  fellow apostle. “I do not think he means to rule, but I am afraid I also do not  understand. He spoke of death, and yet he then told the masses ‘Whoever serves  me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves  me, the Father will honor.’ I do not think he would speak of serving and  following if he or we were to die now. But then he has said before ‘The Son of  Man is going to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and on the  third day he will be raised.”
“I would die for him if he asked,” Simon Peter  spoke from nearby John.
It had been like this for days, ever since their  arrival to Jerusalem during the festival while Jesus rode the donkey over  branches of palm. Jesus spoke words they did not fully
understand, words that  brought fear to the apostles. John looked around the table at his eleven  brothers. Their faces were apprehensive, some masking it with jovial talk and  others asking questions about what was to come.
All seemed to feel this  coming meal with Jesus was important and pivotal in some unknown way. Tension  held between them at all times.

"Great short story. Perfect for a layover." {Post by Scott J. Toney}

"Great short story. Perfect for a layover." When I logged in to Amazon today to check my books' stats and to see if I had any fresh reviews this review of Hearts of Avon was waiting for me. It's short, yes, but it meant a lot. As an 'Indy Author' there is a big thrill to know that others are reading my works, and to think about this gentleman sitting in an airport reading Hearts of Avon and immersing himself in the world of the book while he passes his time. Reviews of Independent books serve two purposes. First, they help future readers make the decision to pick up the book as well. But also, the authors of Independent books check to read your reviews. It means a lot to know what our readers think and that pushes us in our drive to publish more books for you to enjoy. I'd like to say thank you to Raymond Fleming for his support and review and say thank you to all my readers. Have a wonderful day, and if you haven't yet read one of my books, I would love to hear what you think in an Amazon review when you finish!

Commander Shenq must save Egypt and protect the Pharaoh’s throne. Or die trying.

In the aftermath of a battle between the great powers of Egypt and her old foe Kush, Pharaoh Kheper-Re rules Thebes, the city of the golden gates. But still the wars rage on and the kingdom is on the brink of chaos. Kheper-Re fears an invasion by his old nemesis in Alodia and with the help of his most favored Commander he musters a group of
men more deadly than the enemy he fears. As the future of Egypt hangs in the balance Commander Shenq, leader of Pharaoh’s Most Honored Ones, must protect Thebes from a Shadow-Hunter and his army of ten thousand men.  The
Queen, too, is making plans―with a few followers of her own. And as a Hebrew prophet interprets dreams and a bodyguard hears rumors, the quest for peace has never been more challenging. Commander Shenq must drive out all threats to the throne and bring the assassin to heel.

"[C.M.T. Stibbe has] clearly done [her] research. I never felt I was in an Egypt informed by
Hollywood and clichés – pyramids and mummies and curses. Instead [Stibbe portrays] a vivid, ancient land, steeped in superstitious tradition, lavish royalty, with a diverse mix of peoples and cultures. [Stibbe has] a brilliant manner of writing flawed yet interesting characters that we invest in. - HarperCollins' review of Chasing Pharaohs

2 Discovery Channel YOUTUBE specials that are creepily similar to the premise of Scott J. Toney's The Ark of Humanity. Coincidence? Dun Dun Dunnnn!

10/10/2013

These two episodes by the Discovery Channel are based on the idea that Mermaids came about during the time of the Great Flood. My book was written before these episodes came about, but my the coincidences are astounding. It is important to note that these are also works of Fiction for the most part. Thanks so much to Tanya King for bringing these to my attention! - Scott J. Toney

God flooded the earth to annihilate humanity's sins. What if that sinful race didn't die when floodwaters covered them but instead adapted to breathe water?

Under the depths of the ocean one boy has raised himself, until the day when he meets a dark-skinned man with news that will change the lives
of  his civilization forever.

Now he must save his people from another empire  of water dwellers bent on enslaving the oceans and torturing his peaceful  realm.

Yet another question is posed as he learns that his people are  descended from humans that lived on the land above the ocean; a people that were  destroyed by floods made by the rage of God.

If they have to, in order to  escape, will they be able to breathe air and join whatever is left of the world  above the waters?

What would they find there? Is the mythological Noah  still alive?

Author Scott J. Toney interviews with Tuanna Carpo - - Lazarus, Man

1. What inspired you to write the book?

Lazarus has always fascinated me. Here in the Bible we have the miracle of Jesus bringing him back from the grave, but  the question I always had was what was his life after being brought back like? There is little known, and so I was driven to take what we do know from various sources and write a possibility for the days beyond when Jesus  brought him back. To us it is such a beautiful miracle, but I approached Lazarus as a man who feels lost and uncertain after returning to the living, especially after Jesus' crucifixion. I approached him as a person like the rest of us, who in that deep moment of darkness, turns to God
to heal him and show him his path.

2. How did you come up with the names of your  characters?

Most names have been taken directly from the Bible, but for those names of created characters I just jotted down names until I had one with the right fit.

3. Other than writing what else do you like to do?

Sing, I love to sing, and I love to help others in any way I  can. And my family is my world.

4. Are you inspired by people you know for your stories?

I am inspired by the love others show me  and by God. I find that if I follow God's direction and let him lead my pen,  then my writing will follow the path it was meant to follow. I pray a lot, no matter what I am writing.

5. What message were you trying to  impart to the reader?

When you feel the darkness the greatest, that is when God is strongest by your side. The
characters in the Bible were just like us. They felt pain, doubt and despair. We are all 'Man'. Turn to God and he will cherish and guide you.

6. Who is your favorite Author?

Tad Williams, he writes Fantasy and I am a huge fantasy fan.

7. What is your favorite book?

The Dragon Bone Chair by  Tad Williams

8. How old were you when you started  writing?

It all began as a youth, around 10, when I wrote tales to go with the computer game Oregon Trail, creating stories to go with Jimmie getting typhoid or Susie getting small pox.

9. Are you  planning on writing more books?

I have 4 planned now. They may never stop. I am currently writing a Sci-Fi novel titled Bishop. Then I'll be writing 'The Book of Esther' done much in the style of Lazarus, Man. I'll also eventually be tackling sequels to Hearts of Avon and The Ark of Humanity.

10. When readers criticize your book does it give you pause about writing again or are you encouraged?

As writers we must have tough shells. Someone people will always criticize. Some criticism should be taken to heart and put in place to better our current and future  works, and other criticism is not valuable and is not worth worrying about at all. A writer has writing in their blood. I will never stop writing. I  just don't have that in my blood.

11. What advice would you give  those trying to write a book?

Write it now. Begin tonight. I write one  single spaced page per day. You'd be surprised how fast that adds up and how  much it will mean to you once you've finished your first book. And I just  can't tell you how much my readers' reviews have meant to me. Begin your book now. There is no day like today.

Banished from his home and left to wander the mortal world until The Judgment Day, Sammael has lived more lives than he cares to remember.

But  he can't forget.

Haunted by his memories, he is drawn to places of  turmoil, always looking for ways to hasten the day when the Gates of Heaven  opened and his father would allow him to return home.

Sammael's act of  vengeance at the dawn of man destroyed a love that was meant to be and left his  rival broken. What he didn't know was that the strength of that love left him  vulnerable to losing his Glory forever.

DAY 4 / Author Scott J. Toney takes over BHB! - A Lazarus, Man review that the author greatly values!

I received a review and five star rating on Lazarus, Man a few months back that really  touched my heart. As authors, the reviews that are left on our works on various  websites mean a lot to us, not only because they help boost our sales, but  mainly because we enjoy knowing what our readers think of our books. I wrote  this particular book because I wanted to share God's love and touch people's  hearts. This review meant the world to me. I'll post it below.

"The  biggest thing this book opened my eyes to was Leprosy and the pain and  humiliation it causes. After finishing this book I got online, researched about  leprosy and learned that it is a problem today just as it was in Jesus' time. I  am now gladly supporting the leprosy mission here in New Zealand who are helping  people with leprosy in India and other countries to eradicate this disease.  Thanks Scott Toney for planting a seed." - Ricochet, an Amazon reviewer

When I read  Ricochet's review it simply made my day. If you've read any of my books, I would  love to read your review and know what you thought of them. If you haven't read  Lazarus, Man or another of my books, then you should get a free Kindle copy now  on Amazon and let me know if you've enjoyed the book you download once you reach the end! This is the story of Lazarus of Bethany, told through tale and tribulation.

Darkness. Nothing. There was a void in the world around  him, without light or sound. A heaviness weighed on Lazarus' soul as he grasped  for being. He sensed in the darkness there had been
light only moments before  but he could not grasp what that light was.
Suddenly he felt a pulse in his  chest. Something heavy held  his body firm. Memories flooded through his mind of  heat, cattle...family. The world was somehow wrong.

He  tried to move but found he could not, could not raise the heaviness above him.  He smelt Earth. Then, with a thrust, he pushed his bound arms out of the cave  soil he was buried in and braced them on the Earth, using his weakened strength  to pull upward. Earth caved in about him as he rose from his grave, his  arms  and legs bound with bandages. There was a cloth over his face he could not remove. He saw a faint light before him through the cloth.

"Lazarus, come out," a voice beckoned. He walked slowly in his bandages toward the light and could feel a warm breeze move about him. The  sun radiated in the cloth over his eyes. "Unbind him, and let him go," the voice  returned. He  felt coarse hands on his arms as bandages were unwrapped from him.  Coolness came  over his skin where they had been. Lazarus breathed heavily,  unsure of what was  happening.

He had a vague memory of  being sick before this. He was barely aware of who he was. The cloth over his  face was pulled away and he squinted as sunlight blinded him. A bearded man with  long, wavy hair stood in the light. Jesus, he thought in disbelief as the man  approached, placing his palm on Lazarus' forehead. "You are healed, brother,"  Jesus told him as Lazarus' sisters rushed to his side. "You are still needed in this world."

What others are saying about Lazarus, Man

"Scott adds a context around the existing scriptures that helped me to think about what it would be like to be Lazarus... the danger, the  fear, the uncertainty about being given a second chance."
- Julie Van Meter,  author of A Beautiful Gift

"This book takes us through the events  after Lazarus' rising from the grave and his feelings of being lost, disoriented  perhaps. This brings a very human aspect to the miracle."
- CMTStibbe,  author of Chasing Pharaohs
